Country gardens

Def: Rural areas(also referred to as “the country” or “the countryside“) are large and isolated areas of a country, often with low population.

The following gardens have been designed to complement their rural surroundings; more emphasis is placed on planting whilst materials are selected to reflect the local architecture.

The Bowser Garden

Western Red Cedar Decking and New Oak Sleepers are used to bridge an existing stream and allow access to the front door. The large planting beds have been packed with a selection of grasses and perennials chosen to soften the structure.

Formal Brick Edging and Reclaimed Yorkstone paving is used to create a formal structure into which a soft planting palette has been laid. The Western Red Cedar Arches act as a modern frame to the traditional kitchen garden and herb beds.

Strong Contemporary lines are used to complement this modern house and sit beautifully against the woodland backdrop. We planted a selection of soft grasses and bold perennials to balance the harsh lines of this construction.

The Tracy Garden

A red brick house in a rural setting has been planted with a soft mixture of grasses and perennials to give height and colour throughout the year. Clipped topiary forms amongst the looser plantings look dramatic and add character to the garden.

The Guttridge Garden

Strong hedgelines are softened with the introduction of large block perennial plantings including Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldstrum’ and Persicaria amplexicaulis ‘Firetail’. Softwood Sleepers are used to create bold raised planting beds and a simple water feature, their proportions work very effectively in a larger garden.

The Newton Garden

Front gardens can be extremely difficult to design, we removed a tired lawn from this frontage and replaced it with a bold mixture of prairie style perennial and grass planting. With little maintenance required during the year and plenty of interest during the season we were delighted with the finished product.
